MACKENZIE CHILDS

Long before I had my own MacKenzie...little cutie that she was. I was obsessed with MacKenzie Childs. In the big scheme of things, I am a piker. I have two Cookie Jars, a bunch of Christmas ornaments, assorted Knobs, and some trivets of MacKenzie Childs.

My BFF Andrea lives in Tampa and works for Neiman Marcus in Tampa. She runs the Gift Gallery...a place for all things Neiman Marcus. Andrea and I have been BFFs since we worked together at Estee Lauder 30+ years ago. I am positive we looked better then.

Back to MacKenzie Childs....

In 1996, probably at the height of the MacKenzie Childs hysteria NM featured an Airstream trailer totally done by MC...it was fabulous!!! I should have just purchased the damn thing...I would still be living in it and I could park it on the street.

Pretty stunning, huh?

This year when she went to her enclave in Dallas and got seated at the MacKenzie Childs table....Breakfast in Bed

or Dinner in Bed...heaven..

If I win the lottery you can picture me in a cute little house sitting in the chair below reading my Kindle sipping my tea...

Andrea sits in the chair below!

This brings me to one of y favorite songs on friendship...by Paul Simon...

Old friends
Old friends
Sat on their park bench
Like bookends
A newspaper blown through the grass
Falls on the round toes
Of the high shoes
Of the old friends

Old friends
Winter companions
The old men
Lost in their overcoats
Waiting for the sunset
The sounds of the city
Sifting through the trees
Settle like dust
On the shoulders
Of the old friends

Can you imagine us years from today
Sharing a park bench quietly?
How terribly strange to be seventy

Old friends
Memory brushes the same years
Silently sharing the same fear...

OUTSTANDING NEWS!!

I was watching tv this morning and was just amazed at the inventive ways the American public has to encourage good nutrition...Keeping in mind that this is coming from me, not the most nutritious eater of the bunch (no pun intended)...

According to the government's website:
Grains are important.

Fruit is important.

Breakfast is important.

What could be more incredible that having the American breakfast eaters easily combine the fruit and grains with....TADA
It is true....you can now have your Cheerios with "The wholesome goodness of Cheerios® with the great taste of Real Banana baked into every bite."

They even go so far as giving you a link to the benefits of fresh bananas on their website--the fact that the health benefits of fresh bananas have no relevance to their pre-proclaimed "taste of Real Bananas."

Banana Nut Cheerios

Benefits of Fresh Bananas

  • bananaBananas are a source of vitamin C, vitamin B6, potassium and dietary fiber. One medium banana has 17% of the vitamin C, 22% of the vitamin B6, 12% of the potassium, and 12% of the dietary fiber (3g) recommended each day for good health.
  • Vitamin B6 helps the body break down protein and carbohydrate. It also helps in maintaining proper function of the central nervous system.
  • The vitamin C in bananas helps your body to heal and can help support a healthy immune system. Vitamin C also is valuable in the absorption of iron. The potassium from bananas helps maintain the fluid balance in blood and tissue cells. Potassium is also an essential mineral to help muscles contract.
  • Bananas have no fat, cholesterol or sodium.
I ask you---wouldn't it be easier to cut up a banana and put it on the cereal??

ARCHITECTURAL SALVAGE

Cliff and I went to Las Cuatras Milpas (yes this is the correct spelling) today for lunch.....the line was about 20 minutes...the food delicious!! We were very nice and brought some home for Henry...it made his day.

I am mad for the color blue shown in the picture at the right. I found it again further on in the day.

Then we headed over to the new digs of Architectural Salvage. I had not been to the new location and I LOVE it!! Because it is an old garage the walls roll up enabling them to get in some wonderful big pieces.

A set of chairs welcome you in...

I love these wonderful grates...

These look as though they are wonderful dishes freshly washed....
but they are really covers for ceiling lights of a bygone era.

These are tons of chandelier crystals...

We had a very fun day!!
Yes, Schools, you will get your panels....I promise.

WEAR SUNSCREEN

I know that this is old and I am the last to ever see it...but it caught my eye because I always tell everyone to wear sunscreen...but these words are perfect. Written by Baz Luhrmann..

Wear Sunscreen

If I could offer you only one tip for the future,
sunscreen would be it.
The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists,
whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience
I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth, oh nevermind,
you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they've faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself
and recall in a way you can’t grasp now, how much possibility lay before you
and how fabulous you really looked,
you are not as fat as you imagine.

Don’t worry about the future, or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum.
The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind, the kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing everyday that scares you

Sing

Don’t be reckless with other people’s hearts,
don’t put up with people who are reckless with yours.

Floss

Don’t waste your time on jealousy, sometimes you’re ahead, sometimes you’re behind,
the race is long, and in the end, it’s only with yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults,
if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch

Don’t feel guilty if you don’t know what you want to do with your life,
the most interesting people I know didn’t know at 22
what they wanted to do with their lives,
some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don’t.

Get plenty of calcium.

Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.

Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children, maybe you won’t,
Maybe you’ll divorce at 40,
Maybe you’ll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary
What ever you do, don’t congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either
Your choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s.
Enjoy your body, use it every way you can, don’t be afraid of it,
or what other people think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own

Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.

Do not read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.

Brother and sister together we'll make it through
Someday a spirit will take you and guide you there
I know you've been hurtin, but I've been waitin' to be there for you
And I'll be there just helping you out whenever I can

Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for good.

Be nice to your siblings, they are the best link to your past
and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on.
Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle because the older you get,
the more you need the people you knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard,
Live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander,
you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize that when you were young
prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund,
Maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.

Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you're 40, it will look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it.
Advice is a form of nostalgia,
dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off,
painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen

Brother and sister together we'll make it through
Someday a spirit will take you and guide you there
I know you've been hurtin, but I've been waitin' to be there for you
And I'll be there just helping you out whenever I can

FROM STICK BALL TO ICK BALL!

Inspired by our trip to Petco the kids all wanted to play ball this morning. As I glanced outside all I could think of is that "necessity is the mother of invention". In New York City, the kids played stick ball....in Rancho Bernardo they played "Ick Ball".

When you have one ball, four kids, one mitt, and one dog...you have the ability for "ickball". You simply use a very chewed rawhide bone for the bat. Yes, friends we have a winner!!

Jack was the umpire, coach, and star.

Julia was the Ickball version of the girls who walk around with the number of the Round in Boxing (do they still do this?)...she kept the score...and track of who's on first...

SILENCE IS GOLDEN

Silence is golden.....and so unlike me. We came back from vaca and I had a marathon blogging session and then...NOTHING!! Came back to a "supersized" job, and alot of adjusting...so here goes!!

We have visitors! Katie, Seth, and Jack from Miami, and Cliff is in town as well!! So last night Katie, Betsy, Henry, Jack, Jacob, Julia, Seth, and I all went to the Padre game. It was such fun.
Here are cousins....Jack and Jacob ready for the game!!
The boys await their turn at bat at Mini-Petco...and then the fun began.
You would think that Jack was encouraging his little brother to run to base...but no, he was screaming for the ball to tag him out!
He's safe!! and cute!!
Jacob in action!!!

The cheering section...

On to the game and the food......(and for me knitting!!)
DANCING!

EATING!

EATING!

MESSY! but cute!

PROUD PADRE FANS!
We lost of course!!
